And a couple of surprises.

P.S.

This “ADHD simulator” was making the rounds last week on Reddit. The day after I saw it, I went looking for it again, but instead I found this one. Same concept and format, but with a female narrator. There are some very pointed differences between the two versions: the states of the dwellings, the point A to point B, and especially the self-talk.

Anyway, I thought: I want to try using this structure to write a story.

So, at last Sunday’s Barrelhouse write-in, I gave it a try on some Daiso notebook paper, using a few Stabilo 88s. The experience of writing it didn’t flow like the experience of the story itself…but then I remembered: How often does that actually happen, anyway?

I’m going to keep tinkering with this idea, but it won’t surprise me if I load half a dozen fountain pens with different ink colors for the next time. Stabilos don’t drag, smudge, or bleed like some markers, but they’re not particularly fast or smooth, either — and sometimes, speed is important.
